Hands-on Experience

4

Making the film is the focus and they do everything to help you accomplish your best work - and keep the experience as fun as possible. The atmosphere is casual and very much a workshop environment, with students helping students in a mutual learning experience. Most important is that each filmmaker has complete control over his or her content and freedom of expression. Plus, there's a festival at the end of each school year and that is a good incentive to finish your film on-time.

Everyone has to make a student film (whether you're getting into sound design, editing, acting, etc.) so it makes it a better to get people for you're film to act, do a soundtrack, help edit, and do graphics because they're your classmates. Good student networking possibilities.

I made 3 short films at Scottsdale Community College (SCC). SCC is all about making films - of course there's theory and film studies coursework, but the main emphasis is to help students develop and complete their film projects.

I made 3 short films at Scottsdale Community College (SCC). SCC is all about making films - of course there's theory and film studies coursework, but the main emphasis is to help students develop and complete their film projects. Each may, the school puts on the Southwest Film Festival, which also acts and an incentive for students to finish their films. The classes are small and very interactive - more like a workshop setting. There are over 300 sunny filming days a year in Arizona, and most towns don't require permits on student shoots. There some great landmarks (Grand Canyon, Monument Valley) all within an easy day's drive, as well as western ranches, suburbs and big city scapes.
